# Read Promotion Mappings

GET {{apiPath}}/v1/environments/{{envId}}/promotionMappings/{{targetEnvID}}
```

Use the GET `{{apiPath}}/v1/environments/{{envId}}/promotionMappings/{{targetEnvID}}` request to return the mappings to the target environment used for the source environment by the Promotion service.

Because promotion mappings can be automatically generated, this gives you a method to always know what resources have been mapped to the target environment. Refer to [Create Promotion](../promotions/create-promotion.html) for how mappings can be automatically generated.

For any subsequent promotions, the Promotions service uses these mappings to identify the correct target resource to update. This is so even if information or settings for the source resource have been updated.
